Hockey India comes out with election procedure
Hockey India (HI) has finally released a list of states that have got affiliation and has asked them to submit names of two representatives for the its first Annual General Meeting on February 7 at which elections would be held.
The list includes disputed states like Kerala (court case) and Goa and Maharashtra where there are more than one body claiming to be the rightful representative.
State Olympic associations have been asked to find out from the state hockey units their two representatives who would be allowed to exercise franchise in the AGM.
In a unique rule, states have been asked to nominate one woman among their two representatives.
“HI has asked the units to send names of their two representatives who will be attending the AGM,” said a state hockey official. “The last date for sending the names is January 21,” he added.
Elections would be held for 17 posts including a president, a senior vice-president, four vice presidents, a secretary general, treasurer and four joint secretaries along with five executive committee members.
“It shall be mandatory that out of total 17 members of the executive board at least 40 per cent shall be females,” said the official.
HI will come out with a final list of authorized representatives on January 22 and nominations could be made to the returning officer either by the candidate themselves or through a proposer between January 23 to 30. The last date for withdrawal of the candidature is February 2, five days before the elections.
