Battle lines have been drawn for the Hockey India elections with HI acting president Vidya Stokes forwarding a list of 60 authorised representatives from 32 State units to Government observer for the election S.K.Mendiratta. Prominent names figuring in the list are Hockey Punjab secretary-general Pargat Singh, former Indian Hockey Federation president KPS Gill, representing Delhi, Hockey India treasurer Narinder Batra (Jammu and Kashmir), president Vidya Stokes and cricket official Anuraag Thakur (Himachal Pradesh), Rajeev Mehta of Uttarakand, who was in the affiliation committee and J.B.Roy of Bengal, who had raised a banner of revolt when Hockey India Ad Hoc Committee was formed, and the merger process was set in motion.
Each State unit has recommended a male and female representative while Karnataka was the only State which did not forward any names. Hockey Chandigarh’s representatives Chander Shekhar and Mrs K. Atma Ram have not been accepted by Hockey India as according to Stokes, “it has been observed that there has been mis-representation by Hockey Chandigarh”.
