Halla Bol – A Tribute to The hockey Legend Dhyan chand
Halla Bol, it was what was organized on 28th Aug 2010 by the DAV College, Amritsar. HALLA BOL, paid tribute to the hockey legend Dhyan Chand, whose birth anniversary is being celebrated as the National Sports Day. The principal Dr. Satish Sharma highlighted the achievements of legend Dhyan
Chand and promised the continuity of chak de spirit in hockey and different sports activities. ” The spirit of Dhyan Chand should always be there in our heart, because he is a source of inspiration for the young generation”, he said.
Prof Paramjit Singh Randhawa and prof Jinny Sharma compered the event, which started with the lightening of Deepshikha and paying floral tribute to Major Dhyan Chand by honourable Chief Guest Municipal Commissioner D.P.S. Kharbanda. According to him halla bol should be understood in a true and a complete sense and this halla should be of preparation and zeal in the mind to achieve the goal. He described that this halla was in the mind of Major Dhyan Chand. This spirit of halla bol played a key role in his victories as guided by his coach. The Academic Dean of Guru Nanak Dev University Surinderjeet Singh also shared his inspirational vision from the life of Dhyan Chand.
Dhyan Chand’s son Ashok Dhyan Chand was overwhelmed because of the celebration of his father’s birthday by the DAV family with complete gusto. According to his message these types of events inspire not only the players but the young generation also. His father who had magical control over dribbling the ball is regarded as a legendary figure in the world of hockey.
The audience was mesmerized when the halla bol boys ASHIM ,SARTHIK,SIDARTH,YATIN, ASISH and VISHAL rocked on the stage. They performed the song halla bol lively. The boys were fully charged as if they were all set for the sports competition. The group of girls ANITA, BHARTI, KIRAN, MANDISH, NEERU, NEHA, SAHIBA, SANDEEP and SANNIYA sang chak de India song, and through this performance they depicted their dedication to play hockey. These college students paid their respect to Dhyan Chand with their acts which were full of passion and emotions.
The centre of attraction was the Berlin Olympic video depicting the sportsmanship of Dhyan Chand. On seeing this video audience were really touched with the determination and devotion. All the students, hockey players and other sports personalities of college were swayed away with the hair raising victories of Major Dhyan Chand. Acting as village pandhs Ravi and Vardhman satirized the exploiters of the sports. The message of this act was to give directions to those people who had forgotten the value of their national game. Poetry by Amit Malhotra written by P S Shukla from Bhopal was also one of the attractions of the event. He tried to depict the wonderful personality and achievements of Dhyan Chand in his poem. The Principal Dr Satish Sharma, Guest of honors, teachers and college students enjoyed on the patriotic song “yeh desh hai veer jawano ka” and they shared patriotic fervor together.
On this historic day, the former Vice captain of Indian hockey team Olympian Col. Harcharan Singh was the guest of honor who won the hockey world cup in 1975.Before his speech a vidieo was shown to glorify the victoty of the final of that world cup between India and pakistan .Olypian COL. Harcharan singh Singh narrated some of the motivating and inspiring anecdotes from his life. He also explained the importance of hockey to the college players and students and gave suggestions to improve the quality and level of hockey. He also narrated and shared some of the interesting facts of his hockey career with the students of college. An international hockey player S. Balbir Singh Randhawa spoke on some of the unique qualities of Major Dhyan Chand. He also motivated and encouraged the students and players by explaining the spirit of sportsmanship of Dhyan Chand.
The portrait making competition was held in the college and with the valuable and keen guidance of Prof. Rajdavinder Kaur Randhawa, the fine arts students showed selected paintings and sketches of legend Dhyan Chand depicting his personality. The College students Sanjay, Karan, Megha, Sukhmeet, Aarika and Bhavesh expressed their love and devotion to Major Dhyan Chand through these marvelous paintings.
Prof. K.L. Godara, Prof. Yadav, Prof Vikas, Prof. H.S. Walia, Prof. Baldev Sachdeva, Prof. Rajneesh Popi, prof. Gurdas Sekhon, Prof. Ullas Chopra also glorified the heavenly spirits of Major Dhyan Chand on this occasion. Towards the end of this day, the college atmosphere was completely equipped with patriotic feelings when everybody sang National Anthem.

Well DOne DAV college and keep up the good work. Our sporting federation reuire highly educated people to head our federations. Especially hockey. We dont need a KPS Gill who has expertise in catching criminals not catching young talent.
