Sonepat XI thrash Ludhiana XI in Sahibzada Ajit Singh tourney
LUDHIANA: Sonepat XI defeated Ludhiana XI 7-0 in the first match of the Mahavir Real Estate All India Sahibzada Ajit Singh Hockey Champion Trophy at Olympian Prithipal Singh Hockey Stadium in Punjab Agricultural University on Sunday.
For the winning team, Savita scored the first goal in 27th minute, Pooja in 36th minute, Reena in 49th minute, Savita Saini in 51st minute, Monica in 52nd and 59th minute of the match, while Savita Saini scored another goal in 70th minute of the game. In the end, Savita Saini was adjudged player of the match.
In the second match, the girls of Rail Coach Factory defeated Gwalior XI by 5-2. The first goal of the match was scored by Kavita from Gwalior XI in 14th minute of play. Harmanjit Kaur of RCF equaled the score in 39th minute. Anuradha of RCF scored two goals for her team, first in 45th minute and another in the 48th minute. The second goal for Gwalior XI was scored by Kavita in 64th minute of play.
Deepika Thakur from RCF again sounded the board in 69th minute. At the end of match, Anuradha Devi was adjudged player of the match.
In the first semi final of men section, Punjab and Sindh Bank defeated Namdhari XI by 3-2. The Namdharis made a quick start when Ramanjit scored a goal for his team in 10th minute, but the score was soon equaled by Harvir Singh of PSB in 13th minute of the match.
Swaranjit Singh of PSB scored another goal in 28th minute of the play, Swaranjit Singh scored another goal for his team in 49th minute.
The second goal for the Namdharis was scored by Harpreet Singh in 53rd minute. In the end, Swaranjit Singh was adjudged best player of the match.
The second semi final of the day proved to be very interesting for the spectators as both the teams had to go in for penalty shootout for deciding the match. By the end of match, both teams were equaled at 2-2.
During the match, Jayanta from ONGC scored the first goal for his team in 14th minute, which was equaled by Yudhvir from PNB in 34th minute of the play. In the second half, Banwali from PNB scored a goal for his team in 58th minute, which was equaled by Diwakar Ram in 59th minute.
The umpires decided to go in for penalty shootout and the boys of PNB defeated the ONGC team by a final score of 6-4. Jasbir Singh, goalkeeper of PNB was adjudged player of the match.
