Hockey championship on anvil

JALANDHAR: Eight teams will compete in the 32nd All-India Inter-railways Women’s Hockey Championship at Rail Coach Factory Astroturf Hockey Stadium in Kapurthala from March 24 to 29.

The teams have been divided into two pools. Holders Western Railways Mumbai, Central Railways Mumbai, South Eastern Railways Kolkata and Eastern Central Railways Hajipu have been placed in pool A.

Runners-up Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala, Northern Railways Delhi, Western Central Railways Jabalpur and North Eastern Railways Gorakhpur are in pool B. The matches will be played on league-cum-knockout basis. International umpire RS Sodhi has been appointed tournament director.

To select the Indian Railways team, a selection committee has been formed. Manjinder Kaur and Amandeep Kaur have been nominated as observers who will be looking at players in the tournament.
