OTHL Scores under ‘Come and Play’ Scheme

The innovative ‘One Thousand Hockey Legs’ program of the Hockey Citizen Group scored a moral presence of sort in Delhi on the eve of Government of India’s Come and Play initiative was put on board.

In the first four or five hours, the Major Dhyan Chand Stadium staff haven’t received any application for hockey, while there was a huge queque for cricket.

However, OTHL subscriber school, Govt Boys high School from South Delhi, broke the ice and made a head-start. The school submitted about 10 forms. If accepted, these boys will get access to the Major Dhyan Chand Stadium turf for about a month at a throwaway price of Rs.25. (The normal rate for hockey is Rs.75 but government school boys and girls get two third concession).

We at the Hockey Citizen Group took the initiative, got the forms downloaded in time, collected all relevant information from the students, organized signature from parents or guardian on the forms, and then convinced the School Principal to endorse each form. One hurdle it took long time was to organize two photos of these children. One of our volunteers took photos on his camera, and then copies taken in a studio.

One of volunteers again took three students in his car today, and helped them present the form and fees.

The staff have been very courteous despite huge rush.

Similar exercise has been done with respect to another government school as well, they are expected to file the applications tomorrow.

We, being the volunteer organization, take pride in making this feeble impact under Come and Play Scheme.
