The women’s Samsung Hockey Champions Trophy in Canberra, Australia, is setting new television coverage records with the tournament being broadcast in all six competing nations for the first time.

Live coverage of the tournament is being broadcast to more than 500 million viewers in 93 countries via eight television networks and will reach its highest ever global potential audience over the six competition days.

“The record television coverage of the Samsung Hockey Champions Trophy reflects the hard work undertaken by the International Hockey Federation this year to improve the exposure of hockey around the world,” FIH President Els van Breda Vriesman said.

A full list of broadcasters and the Eurosport schedule can be found on the Champions Trophy website, http://samsungchampionstrophy.worldhockey.org.

The first weekend of the Champions Trophy ended with defending champions Netherlands and host nation Australia leading the way. Argentina and China are joint third with one win from two matches, while Korea and Olympic champions Germany are yet to taste success in the tournament.

In Sunday’s play, Netherlands thrashed Germany 8-1 while Argentina recovered from a disappointing opening day loss with a 3-0 disposal of China. In the last match of day two, Australia struggled before overcoming Korea 2-0.

The tournament resumes on Tuesday afternoon (Australian time), with another full round of matches. Teams will play a further three preliminary matches to complete the round robin phase before the finals this Sunday.
