Hockey star Zafar Iqbal has been selected for this year’s top civilian honour, Padamshree award.

Zafar Iqbal, an alumini of Aligarh Muslim University, played for India in two Olympics.

He won the gold at Moscow Olympics under the captaincy of Vasudevan baskaran. He also led India at the next Olympics.

He was also captain of the Delhi Asian Games (Silver).

Zafar Iqbal is General Manager with Air India and is based in New Delhi.

He also won Champions Trophy Bronze in 1983.

The celebrated left-winger of yore Zafar played for India for about 8 years from 1978 to 1986
