Shyam Lal memorial hockey tournament to commence from February 6

NEW DELHI: Shyam Lal College will be organising the second Shyam Lal memorial invitational inter-college hockey tournament 2012 in the men’s and women’s categories respectively from February 6th to 15th in the college playground.

The tournament will witness Delhi University’s best hockey teams fighting for the ultimate glory. The tournament will be played on league-cum-knock-out basis in the men’s category while women’s category will be played on the round-robin league basis.

The tournament was introduced with the intention to promote physical fitness, team spirit and a sense of competitiveness among the students of Delhi University.

According to convenor VS Jaggi, the organising committee has also decided to honour an outstanding player of every match to encourage the participants.

The opening ceremony of the tournament will be held on February 6th in the college campus. Shyam Lal College governing body member Savita Gupta will preside over the function.

Rajeev Mehta, vice-president, Hockey India, will grace the occasion as the chief guest with Dr. Meera Sood, secretary, Sports Council, DU and Suresh Sharma, general secretary, Kho-Kho Federation of India as guests of honour.

The teams which will take part in the tournament are as under:

Men’s: Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), Kirori Mal College (KMC), Shri Venkateshwara College, Moti Lal College (Evening), Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education & Sports Sciences (IGIPESS), Shyam Lal College (Morning), Khalsa College, Shyam Lal College Alumni.

Women’s: Janki Devi Memorial College, Jesus & Mary College, Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education & Sports Sciences (IGIPESS) and Vivekananda Mahila College.
