Mumbai, UP in title clash
Mumbai and Uttar Pradesh entered the final of the inaugural junior National hockey championship (under-20), organised by the Hyderabad Hockey Association under the aegis of the Indian Hockey Federation, here on Tuesday.
In the first semifinal, Mumbai defeated Karnataka 1-0 with striker Upendra Pillay latching on to a pass from Ganendrajit in the 33rd minute to find the target.
PUNJAB FIGHTS IN VAIN
Later, Uttar Pradesh edged out a fighting Punjab 5-3 in the tie-breaker in the second semifinal after the teams were locked goalless at full-time.
In the tie-breaker, Deepak Singh, Abhimanyu Balmiki, Lalit Upadhyay, Abhishek Singh and Sunil Yadav were on target for the winner, while Gagandeep Singh Jr., Gagandeep Singh Sr. and Satbir Singh scored for the loser.
