Born in Sitapur (UP) on 6th September 1960, Ravinder Pal Singh had all his hockey trainings at Meerut (UP). He excelled as a centre-half for Indian teams for six years from 1979 to 1984. The double Olympian (1980 & 1984), played the Cuttack Senior Nationals in 1976 and represented India at the 1979 Junior World Cup. He won the gold at the Moscow Olympics and then regularly represented India till 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. Besides, he has played all the major tournaments in the early 1980s including Champions Trophy - Karachi (Pakistan) - 1980 & 1983; Silver Jubilee 10-Nation Cup, Hong Kong - 1983; World Cup - Mumbai (India) - 1982; Asia Cup - Karachi (Pakistan) - 1982; India-Pakistan Test Series - 1981; Europe Tour - 1981; Quadrangular Malaysia - 1980.
