Affan Yousaff takes Bhopal college to final
Young sensation Affan Yousaff continues to dazzle in the blue Riband of Indian colleges hockey being played at Gwalior at present.
Student-star Affan Yousuff lived upto his top billing to take Jawaharlal Nehru College, Bhopal, to the Sunday final of the 20th SAIL-Nehru College Championship being held in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.
Affan’s timely twin strikes helped his college beat fighting Al Ameen College of Bangalore. Affan plays for Indian Oil Corporation team nowadays and used all his skills to steer his team to success on Saturday.
On the other semifnal, which went one sided, was dominated by Rourkela’s Municipal College as it outpaced reigning champions DAV Jalandhar 5-1.
The second semifinal played under floodlights turned out to be the toast of the much acclaimed championship, as it went down the wire.
Bhopal college was sitting pretty with a goal from Vikas Chaudhury which he struck in the first half. Affan added another in the 54th minute, but 61st minute reply from the visiting side electrified the crowd. Even after Affan added another on in the 65th minute, Bangalore team did not give up, struck one in the dying minutes of the game.
Bhopal survived the scare to meet the Municipal College tomorrow.
Earlier in the first semis, Jalandhar team proved to be sitting duck for the team from Eastern part of India.
Deepak Kullu’s brace and a goal from Rabindra Kujur gave 3-1 lead for the wining side, and in the second half Sunil Topno and Nobin Kullu added further to consign Jalandhar team to dustbin.
Accordingly to Kukoo Walia, organizing Secretary, the final will be telecast live.
“I am trying for the hardline match Live also”, he said.
The hardline match will be played 14 hrs while the final at 16 hrs.
