Captain Arjun’s comments evokes instant response in Facebook
Media Watch: Arjun Halappa is sharp not only on the field but also off from it. His comments on the hockey matters never used to be mundane, but worth of a standing star.
Therefore it was not surprise that one of his comments he posted in a social networking site had evoked 60 ‘likes’ within a couple of hours from posting, and about 20 comments.
Newly appointed captain Arjun Halappa, who led Bangalore Lions to PHL title twice, posted the following in his facebook today:
“wer r bollywood stars nw cant they come and support anna hazare wen cricket team won they were in road at midnight to celebrate”.
His comment was on the ongoing fast unto death strike by noted Gandhian Anna Hazare, 72, who advocates a Jan Lok Pal bill to fight corruption all ends up.
The peaceful fighter is on his fourth day of fast, which has been drawing national attention in India, and put the whole political set up in backfoot.
Arjun was taking a dig at Bollywood stars who almost maintain a studied silence over the national event of this fight against corruption. Contrarily, when the Indian team won the cricket World Cup last week, every Bollywood star had something to stay, and it was highlighted by the media. There was a genuine feeling then that the stars were doing all these just for claiming their share in the hour of national celebration.
Arjun, despite being a lover of all sports, gives vent to his feeling of bollywood stars not coming in a big way for which they are usually known for.
It is interesting to note here that Arjun and Co are not of the old hockey star type, unliked the oldies, enjoyed cricket world cup, and remain update on the internet.
Arjun was also one of the successful unofficial spokespersons for players when they successfully staged a protest over non-payment of fees last year. His views during the live television debates were forthright, interesting and engaging.
Present lot belongs to new generation of hockey players, and it is good for the game.
Well done Arjun
It is interesting that almost all current hockey players are active facebookists, Arjun of course top the list with almost 2000 subscribing to his page.
