Australia walks away with Hockey 9s Cups
Oct 23: Australian men and women clinched the men and women’s title in the Lanco International Super series Cup, which concluded here in Perth today.
While Aussie women easily overcame India 4-1, men had to struggle before stamping their class in the last three minutes. Till the 25th minute, the fortune for both the fighting teams were oscillating swiftly, but two goals in the last five minutes swung it in favour of the hosts.
Veteran Liam Deyoung it was who changed the gear with a hawkish deflection off a penalty corner feed. Four minutes later, Glenn Turner sealed the Cup with an athletic goal.
New Zealand thus had to contend with the Silver though no such medals were not given to individual players.
Earlier New Zealand matched Australia move for move, undaunted of conceding two goals within seen minutes. In the space of two minutes between 14th and 16 th minute, Aussies cancelled the 3-1 deficit to bring the score on level (3-3).
On the other hand, the so-called final between Indian women and Australia turned out to be a one-sided affair despite the losers punching the scoreboard first.
Soundarya Yandala scored for India, and then it did not get enough moves to move the scoreboard up.
