Bangalore: Deepak Bijwad’s three-goal effort was the feature of STC Bangalore’s crushing 7-0 win over STC Thrissur in the South Zone Sports Authority of India (SAI) interhostel hockey tournament at the KSHA Stadium on Wednesday.
The hosts ran the Thrissur defence ragged to top Group A and set up a last four clash with Kollam. Ramesh HT opened the floodgates in the third minute. Two minutes later, Bijwad got into the act. Nithin Thimmaiah then made it 3-0 for the Bangalore team with a strike in the 23rd minute. Though Thrissur failed to up the tempo after the breather, the hosts didn’t let up steam. Bijwad struck four minutes into the second session, while Mandanna scored the teams fifth in the 43rd minute.
Bijwad scored his third five minutes later, while Thimmaiah (53rd) rounded off Bangalore’s good day in the office.
In a group B tie, STC Secunderabad overcame STC Kollam 2-0 and booked a semifinal clash with Chennai. Sampath Kumar (18th) and Sandeep Raju (51st) were the goal-scorers.
