Bangalore Cup: Haryana enter final with Manjeet’s brace
Bengaluru, 15 Oct 2015: A brace by Manjeet helped Haryana continue their unbeaten run as they scored a 2-0 victory over Central Railway in the women’s league matches of the 2nd Bengaluru Cup hockey tournament at the Bangalore Hockey Stadium turf here on Thursday.
Manjeet scored two field goals in the 51st minute and 66th minute.
Central Railway finished their four league engagements and have six points from two wins. Haryana won all the three matches and have nine points with a game remaining against MP Academy.
Playing against a much-stronger Haryana XI, the Railway girls played a defensive game to hold the marauding rival forwards for 50 minutes and saved eight penalty corners. Central Railway defender Sandeep Kaur was in her elements thwarting many an attack and Ponnamma Mallamada played a key role in the attack and fell back regularly and made a goalline save when Haryana’s Monica Dahiya sent in a stinger in the 40th minute with goalkeeper out of position.
Manjeet brought relief to the Haryana camp when she scored the first goal sending in a powerful hit from near the spot off a cross from the right by Preeti in the 51st minute and then with four minutes to go for the hooter she found the net once again when she cut the ball which hit the cross piece and settled in.
