300 saplings planted
Chandigarh:Union minister of state for sports M S Gill gave away the prizes to winners. Players of international eminence Ajitpal Singh (hockey), Pargat Singh (hockey ) and Kartar Singh (wrestling) were also honoured with a cash prize of Rs 51,000, citation and memento for bringing laurels to the Sikh community. Earlier in the day, Maharashtra industries and tourism minister Ashok Chauhan inaugurated the martial arts games and lauded the efforts of SGPC for organizing such a “unique” festival at Nanded.
At the main venue of the religious function, the Sant Samaj honoured its members for their exemplary contribution to the event. The function was attended by Takht Hazur Sahib jathedar Kulwant Singh and M S Gill among others. On the occasion, Sant Samaj members stressed on the need to curb drug menace and female foeticide in Punjab. “Khalsa will not survive if we fail to perform our duties on this front,” said Gill.
Continuing with their environment drive, Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal and his followers planted 300 saplings on the Godavari banks.
