CISF OVERCAME resilient Ropar Hawks 5-4 on the second day of the 38th S.N. Vohra Gurmit Memorial Hockey Tournament at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium, Chandigarh, on Tuesday .

Ropar Hawks drew the first blood in the sixth through a penalty corner. Karanpal Singh converted the corner. CISF levelled the scoring in the 19th minute when Compal Lakra found the net on a move initiated from left flank. Thereafter, Mangra Munda struck twice in the 26th and 32nd minute, giving CISF a health lead of 3-1 at the end of first half.

After changing ends, Ropar Hawks were awarded a penalty corner in the 50th minute, which was converted by Jagroop.

CISF scored two goals in quick succession to put Ropar Hawks out of contention. However, despite being down by 5-1, Ropar Hawks didn’t gave up and they launched counter attacks and were successful in scoring two goal in the 66th and 68th minutes. In the end, Ropar Hawks fell short by one goal and the game ended 5-4 in the favour of CISF. During the game CISF, earned two penalty corners while Ropar Hawks were awarded eight corners. In the second match of the day, Sanjay Yadav scored three goals to guide Indian Air Force to a 5-1 win over PSEB. IAF opened the scoring in the 34th minute when Sanjay Yadav scored a well-crafted field goal. Two minutes later, Yadav doubled the lead through a penalty corner.

After lemon break, Amrik Singh converted a penalty corner in the 47th minute to open the scoring for PSEB. Indian Air Force scored three goals in span of eight minutes to wrap up the match 5-1. Sanwar Ali and Sanjay Yadav were the scores for IAF in the second half.
