Chandigarh Hockey Academy drubs Hyderabad
CHANDIGARH: Chandigarh Hockey Academy, a residential venture of the Chandigarh Administration, handed out a 16-0 drubbing to Hyderabad Hockey Academy in the inaugural Group B fixture of the inaugural Administrator’s Challenge Cup Hockey Tournament at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium on Thursday. In a hopelessly one-sided affair, Chandigarh Hockey Academy had established a commanding 8-0 lead in the first half. The fleet-footed CHA boys played an attacking game. They opened their attack in the second minute itself. Gurjinder Singh sent a through forward pass inside the striking circle and Gagandeep just connected it in a flash. The star CHA forward went on to score in the 8th, 21st, 24th minutes to increase his tally to four. The other scorers for CHA were Gurjinder (4th, 40th, 54th minute), Bikramjeet (26th, 27th, 43rd minute), Danandeep (41st, 50th, 53rd minute), Baljit (14th minute), Abhijit (42nd minute) and Gurjant (49th minute). The second match between Surjit Hockey Academy of Jalandhar and Hockey Academy of Gurgaon could not be played as the latter played truant. Earlier, Adviser to the Chandigarh Administrator Pradip Mehra inaugurated the tournament which carries cash prizes of Rs 50,000 to the winners and Rs 25,000 to the runnersup team.–ENS
