ONGC, BPCL get off to expected starts

Bangalore, Jan 3, DHNS:

On the opening day of the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board’s inter-unit hockey tournament, the gap between the big wigs and the lower rung sides was clearly evident.

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation played with no concern whatsoever in their 3-0 win over Gas Association India Limited in the opening encounter at the Karnataka State Hockey Association stadium on Monday.

GAIL’s defenders had no say in the match as ONGC dominated possession and dictated terms with ease but despite being handed chances virtually every minute, only Harpal Singh (2nd), Pramod (8th) and Bikad Toppo (15th) scored.

In the day’s second match, Bharat Petroluem Corporation Limited defeated Engineers India Limited 2-1. Tushar Khandekar (12th) and Hariprasad (17th) slammed in the BPCL goal. RS Rana pulled one back for EIL in the 24th minute.
