NEW DELHI: Beijing-bound bantamweight boxer Akhil Kumar and two other Olympic-bound boxers — Jitender Kumar and Dinesh Kumar were felicitated at a function here on Sunday.
Some members of the junior Asia Cup winning Indian hockey team — Mandeep Antil, Ranjit Singh, Vikas Sharma, Vivek and Jaswant Singh — were also felicitated at the function.
Speaking on the occasion, Akhil said the draw was not important at the mega event.
“When you aspire for an Olympic medal, draw does not matter. It can help you only up to a certain point. Our first aim, of course, is the semifinals (to ensure a medal).”
Among others, former Indian women’s hockey team captain Pritam Siwach, was present. — Sports Reporter
