India-Pakistan Hockey World Cup match to have highest viewership

ISLAMABAD: The ‘explosive’ Hockey World Cup match between arch rivals India and Pakistan, which would be played today (Sunday) at the National Stadium in New Delhi, could well become the highest watched hockey event in Pakistan ever.

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) has entered into a four-year deal with the state run Pakistan Television (PTV) for the terrestrial rights of allmajor hockey events, including the World Cup, The Dawn reports.

With Doordarshan, India’s national television network, bringing all the hockey World Cup action live to 110 million homes and the PTV’s reach in over 17 million homes in that country, the Hero Honda FIH Hockey World Cup is set to become the highest watched hockey event ever reaching to approximately 600 million people in the sub-continent.

Besides the two state run television networks, the pan-subcontinental satellite broadcaster Ten Sports will also broadcast all matches of the World Cup live to about 10 million households in the region.
