Double Olympian Nandy Singh hospitalized

Dec 19: Double Olympic gold medallist Commander Nandy Singh, 81, has been hospitalized after he suffered paralytic attack today

He is now admittted into the emergency ward of the city’s Moolchand Hospital, a km from his residence. The retired navy officer lives in Defence colony, New Delhi.

Grahanandan Singh (his full name) played both 1948 and 1952 Olympics when Indian won their consequective fourth and fifth Olympic hockey gold

Nandy has been a much feared centre-forward of his times, and helped Services do well at the National Championships as well.

After his playing career, Nandy took extraordinary interest in development of hockey. He is at present Secretary of the Nehru Hockey Tournament Society, which has been doing a yeoman service to Indian hockey by way of organizing various age group tournament on scheduled dates every year.

This writer met him at his residence last month and found him fit and energetic. This misfortune therefore comes as a shock.

Nandy Singh is a profilic golfer and that is how he kpet himself busy these days
