Dr. Yeduguri Kiron does a Chak De! for Indian Hockey

Within 72 hours after State Bank of India had made a record of sort, Hyderabad based Dr. Yeduguri Kiron, Chief Executive Officer of Suchir India Developers (P) ltd, breaks it. All for the betterment of Indian hockey. Dr. Kiron has come forward to donate each Asia Cup winners and coaches a plot in his upcoming real estate project. The overall booty is believed to be in the vicinity of Rs.2 crore, simply double the amount the India’s premier Bank donated to our Chennai heroes on 21st at Bangalore.

S2h has highlighted how the SBI’s gesture is a record breaker insofar as reward amount to Indian hockey teams are concerned. That record is broken with Dr. Kiron’s gesture, and with that the Indian hockey players, vis-à-vis the Indian hockey’s profile takes another leap towards being our national game.

With the gestures emanating from the likes of Lion Dr. Kiron, our men’s hockey can well be likened to Bombay Stock Exchange, which breaks a record each passing day.

Warangal born Dr.Kiron, 37, packed his entire executives, about 390 in numbers, to the city’s imax theatre for the Chak De! India film. “Because, I believe winning in team game comes with team spirit, and also winning is what all counts in Individual’s career and in society’s evaluation” says Kiron, who also took his team to other two inspirational cinemas like Lagan and Lage Raho Munnabhai. As the Cricket’s Twenty20 World Cup and the Asia Cup successes came when the aura of Chak De was glowing, Dr.Kiron thought of honouring both the teams on equal measure. Cricket award ceremony is already over, now it is the turn of hockey.

For Kiron, a connoisseur of sports, especially football and hockey, sports is not just a pastime. Instead, a corporate model for success. This is how Dr.Kiron philosophies about his approach to business: “When my competitor makes a step ahead of us, my team concedes a goal. When we come out better of my competitors, we score a goal. Ethical based, quality corporates play a game on daily basis with the spirit it deserves. The spirit imbibed in sports needs to be emulated by the business for its success”.

Dr.Kiron is certainly, one can conclude, the emerging face globalized India. Middle class born, logarithmic success in the chosen field, global vision, scrupulous adherence to social goals and corporate responsibilities(Suchir India organized in the past Mega Blood Donation Camp, Kargil Heroes Day, Rally for environmental and health causes, Sir CV Raman Educational Awards to school children etc. etc.) and all virtues that go with the corporate excellence of contemporary India. His 250-crore business empire blossomed in a short span of a decade from a scratch. Needless to state, Suchir India is the country’s first real estate company to have ISO-9001 :2000 Quality Standard certification and IS014001:2004 Environmental standard certification.

Dr.Kiron is not just going to be satisfied with the reward. He intends to make the function, to be held on 28th this month at Hyderabad, a grand affair. Leading corporate houses, chamber of commerce biggies, bar council members, and the people who count in the city are in the honour list of being invited. “Let us tell the corporate world it is not just cricket, but sports like hockey also need to be appreciated and rewarded. Government cannot do everything, we have to chip in. After all, in Europe and across the globe, the team games like football and hockey are hugely popular, as the mass see in them a heroism. That kind of role models are must for any aspiring society”, assert Dr.Kiron. The rally being organized the next day after the awards nite will have college and school children cheering the Indian hockey team. “Our children should see our winning heroes and get inspired”

True to his words, Dr.Kiron’s chamber is adorned with action image of sporting heroes. He has special love for Argentinean football hero Maradona and in our own Dhanraj Pillay. “They are fighters to the core. Dhanraj is a bit eccentric, but nothing to beat him on the fields”, he says.

Dr.Kiron advocates a clear strategy for the hockey administrators. He expects them to have a strategy to popularize and market game. “Cricket is very well popular and market, still they bring in Mallaya. Why? They want successful people in their fold, and use their expertise for furthering the cause of sport. Hockey also needs to bring people from vast sections of the society and organize district to state level competitions, where corporate should chip in, and organize saleable events like Bollywood versus Hockey heroes. Things like this will take hockey to dizzy heights. This is how you attract youth into hockey also”, Dr. Kiron envisions.

Suchirindia claims in its vision statement: For Suchir India team, it has become a habit rather than a task to strive for the best, to leave nothing to chance and leave everything to the choice of the customers. It would be a revelation that this is just not another of those real estate companies, but the only one of its kind.

S2h longs the current Indian team reads the above statement and absorbs the spirit it seeks to inculcate. As Dr.Kiron and his team is inspired by the Chak De, our hockey team should be inspired by the words and deeds of Dr.Kiron and Co.: ‘Strive for the best, leave nothing to chance, be only one of its kind’.

And there is a word for the Indian Hockey Federation too. sports is not just organizing the events, but managing them. Make teams for winning, not for the heck of it. Have competitions for winning, not for experimenting. Sports is meant for success and only success counts in sports. Society loves sports and goes ga ga when the team wins. Arise. Awake. And stop not Indian Hockey.

The historic city of Hyderabad had seen many new things are conceived, and take shape, such as Afro-Asian Games and Premier Hockey League. In that list comes yet another one, the historic reward for the Indian national hockey team. Hail Hyderabad. Hail SuchirIndia.
