Ravi Pal Singh of Punjab and Sind Bank is a decent player. With him at the play maker, the bank team has won many laurels in the domestic circuit. No doubt about him being a decent and match winning player.
However, when he was selected for senior India assignment by his bank coach Rajinder Singh Jr., for the mini-World Cup in Amsterdam three years ago, a few eye brows were certainly raised. This was essentially because he was not among the probables list earlier, and not even get to play in the serious junior India assignments.
He was dropped by Rajinder Jr.’s successor Joaquim Carvalho. He was not even called for any training camp in the last one year. Now after the Chile chiller, he was not only called for the camp, but after a week’s stay at Bangalore camp, is again selected to represent India again. Can we call it a great comeback in the Indian hockey? What was his special achievement that merited his recall?
Obviously, there is nothing, not even National Championship took place.
But of course, Ravi Pal has knowingly or unknowingly did a very clever thing which seemed to work wonders for him. He left the bank last year and joined Bharat Petroleum. As we all know a biggie in the oil sector team is alos a biggie in the Gill’s raj and also with Joaquim Carvalho, the Chief Coach cum Chief Selector.
What is a big deal, big secret in his team boy getting the national duty again?
After all, at the end of the day one has to say how many players from his organization represented India.
Let the country go to hell. Because am a sacred Olympian I have a divine licence to do whatever I want.
Ok, welcome Ravi Pal. Don’t worry. Don’t feel guilty. You are not alone, nor such incidents will ever become rare.
