Dilip Tirkey’s home Sundargarh will witness first ever hockey related District bandh on Wednesday. Agitated over the insane remarks of an Orissa State Hockey Association official, about 10,000 players and hockey fans of Sundargarh district will take out a rally on coming Wednesday. All shops and establishments will be closed on that day.
According to reliable information with the s2h, the Orissa’s hockey headquarters, Sundargarh is already on the boils. Street protest and effigy burning, and all, have taken place in the last three days after the Steelers’ team returned home from Chandigarh.
The anger of the hockey conscious public is over the fact that an unworthy officials has, through words and deeds had insulted their idol Dilip Tirkey. OSHA Secretary Satpati has directly blamed Orissa Steelers’ captain Dilip Tirkey for the teams’ inability to depend the Premier Hockey League in an interview to the local daily, Sampad. This has not gone well with the playing and sports fraternity. Dilip has already convened a press meet in his home last week and gave his version in a possible decent way, while in his press meet on Sunday, Satpati has claimed that he has got Dilip in the national side in the early 90s!
It is gathered Sundargarh Member of Legislative Assembly Gregory Minz is spearheading the rally. Minz is also a former hockey player, and the area’s veterans like Michael Kindo are extending a helping hand. Players like Prabodh Tirkey and Lazrus Barla, have come in unison to refute the charges leveled by Satpati.
Of importance to note here is, if Wednesday bandh goes as reports seem to suggest, it will be the first ever occasion a mass protest among masses in the realm of field hockey.
Interestingly, Dilip Tirkey and other players have already reached Bangalore where the national camp is currently underway.
