Gurbaj returns to India via SAF Games
Suspended and humiliated Gurbaj Singh returns to national side through South Asian Federation Games. The talented midfielder has been named in the 16-member team for the South Asian Federation Games to be held in Guwahati and Shillong in the first week of February.
Due to some tiff off, Olympian and World Cup player Gurbaj Singh was first suspended for a year by the disciplinary committee of Hockey India. However, the indignant Gurbaj took the help of court to win his case. After a Chandigarh court ruled his suspension is unfair and null and void, HI promptly lifted the ban.
The Deputy Superintendent of Police, played the Surjit Hockey Cup after HI lifted the ban.
However, he missed out both HWL Finals in Raipur and also the lucrative Hockey India League due to this dispute, generated after one of the assistant coaches with the team, Jude Felix complained about his conduct during HWL Semifinals held in Antwerp, midway through last year.
The team will however be led by Mandeep Antil of ONGC.
