Asom to face Manipur in final today

GUWAHATI, Oct 24: The final of the second Northeast Hockey Championship will be the repeat of the first edition as both Manipur and Asom entered into the final for the two consecutive years defeating their respective opponents in the semi-finals held at Bhetapara Hockey Stadium here today. In the first semi-finals, Asom thrashed Nagaland by 12-0 While in the second semi-finals Manipur defeated Tripura by 7-1.
The match between Asom and Nagaland was the first semi-finals of the day which was dominated by the hosts team. The Asom team today displayed an attacking game and never allowed Nagaland to come back into the match. Ramen Kumar Singh, Ajit Singh, Lalthajwala and R K Anandjit scored two goals each. Ratul Anasari, Braja Kumar Singh, Barna Das and Amarjit Singh were the other scorer for the team.
Meanwhile the second semi-finals of the day, Manipur took control over the game once referee blew the whistle to indicate the start of the game and the side kept Tripura busy to defend their goal in most of the occasions. P Adeba was the star of the day for Manipur who alone scored five goals for his team. He was well supported by Th Birjit and D Priyakumar. Tripura returned one through B Nag.
The final of the tournament would be held tomorrow.
