Hockey India Prize Money is mere 50 percent of WSH prize money
Hero Hockey India League has announced its prize money yesterday. It’s a windfall for the players who often complain poor prize monies in the Indian domestic circuit.
Last year India witnessed a grand league when another television channel engineered World Series Hockey (WSH).
Its interesting to compare the prize money of Hockey India League with its progenitor, or competitor, WSH.
We at the same make it clear both Leagues totally differ in concept, execution, focus and selection and payments to players and coaches.
In strictly prize money terms, WSH scores better.
Whereas WSH had Rs. 4 crore for the winners, Rs.2 crore for the runners-up, Rs.1 crore each to third and the fourth place, HIL has 2.5 crore for the winner, 1.25 crore for the runners-up and 75 lacs for the third place.
For the individual prizes, WSH had Rs.1 crore for the Most Valuable Player. HHIL has Rs.25 lacs for the Player of the tournament. Similarly, the counterpart of ‘Star Indian Player’ of WSH (50 lacs) in HHIL is ‘Upcoming Player of the Tournament’ and will get 20 lacs.
Overall, the prize money for WSH was 10.1 crore compared to 5.169 crore in HHIL.
WSH prize money is double as that of Hockey India League.
