Coach Kaushik’s investigation drags on

Former national women’s hockey coach, MK Kaushik, who is at the centre of a sexual harassment controversy, has no clue how long the case will drag on. “I am absolutely clueless,” was all Kaushik had to say about Tuesday’s hearing. Ever since the sports ministry asked its sexual harassment committee to inquire into the allegations, preliminary round of hearings have been going on.
But Kaushik sounded positive. “I am looking ahead to a good judgement.”
In July, when the case was referred to ministry, Kaushik had hinted at taking legal action against Hockey India (HI), as the issue has dented his reputation. But on Monday, he decided to keep his cards close to his chest. “I am waiting for the final result,” he said.
For Tuesday’s hearing, the committee, it is learnt, has called at least three players including goalkeeper Dipika Murthy.
The players have been called in the morning session, while Kaushik is expected to meet the panel in the afternoon.
The committee comprises five senior women officers from the ministry and an NGO official.
Ever since his resignation, Kaushik has been away from the limelight, but is eagerly looking forward to his coaching job. “I am waiting for the committee to expedite the proceedings, so that I can be back in action.”
