The induction of erstwhile Indian Hockey Federation chief KPS Gill as member of the Delhi Hockey ad-hoc Committee has not gone down well with Delhi District Hockey Association (DDHA).

Senior vice-president of the DDHA, Bhupinder Singh, has termed it ‘illegal’ saying: “There was no meeting of the general body or the executive body and hence no approval was sought. It is unconstitutional.”
He also claims that he has the support of 22 out of 30 members in the association and has “signed approvals
against the membership”. NS Bindra, the DDHA vice-president, also opposed Gill’s induction.

Gill was inducted by a five-member joint ad-hoc committee of the association earlier this week. But Charanjeet Raheja, a member in the committee, said that the appointment followed all proper channels. “Gill was appointed with the approval of IM Mahajan (DHA president). He has authority to appoint members,” he said, while questioning Singh’s claim of having a majority backing. “Bhupinder Singh chose not to attend at least two meetings called by Mahajan. He cannot hold us accountable for his absence.”

Meanwhile, Amrit Bose, member of the affiliation sub-committee of Hockey India, has clarified that she did not attend Tuesday’s meeting. The full meeting was not held and the decision to write to Hockey Punjab was taken after an informal discussion.
