Hindustantimes: Now, women join the men

The women’s hockey team has expressed solidarity with its male counterparts, saying it would join the boyccott if its demands were not met.

“We support the men’s team on this issue. They are fighting for the right cause. Tomorrow, we will make a representation to HI and if needed, we will also go on strike,” former India captain Mamta Kharab told HT from Bhopal.

“What HI has done is uncalled for. When the federation is getting money from the sponsors, the players should get some monetary benefits,” said Saba Anjum.

Women’s hockey has done well in the last one year, winning the Champions Challenge Cup at Kazan and finishing second in the Asia Cup. “Forget incentives, no one even came to receive us when we returned after winning the Champions Challenge Cup,” said captain Surinder Kaur. Binita Toppa and Deepika Murty too seconded the demands.
