In an extra-ordinary development, Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has boldly informed a court of law that they will not treat Hockey India as the National Sports Federation dealing hockey.

The Ministry in its affidavit filed before the Delhi High Court, has sworn that it will form an adhoc committee to run the game of hockey, and unlike previous occasion this time the committee will consist of ’eminent Sports Administrators and eminent hockey players’

The Court, hearing a Public Interest Litigation by well-known sports buff Rahul Mehra, adjourned the case to 10th March.

Says the successful lawyer Rahul Mehra, “Hope this step teaken by the government of India gives hockey a new lease of life it so badly deserves”.

The ministry in its affidavit has informed the court that it will revert back to administer the sport by appointing an adhoc body.

It is now to be seen on which date the Ministry will form the said committee, before the World Cup or after it.

This site has consistently maitained the Hockey India was formed fradulently and the FIH giving recognition to it was not only unethical and was also not in sync with the established tradition.

The body, whose constitution is so raw, incomplete, unpurposeful and legally not tenable, however been recognized by the FIH. Since the FIH has do so, the Ministry had to give recognition in May last year. Many people who originally formed Hockey India have either resigned or not active, leaving one Narinder Batra to declare himself as the Secretary General!

Hockey India’s prime mandate was to hold a free and transparent election. However, greed has ocme in the way. The process of state units merger and granting affiliation has been done whimsically and unfair means that that many courts have stepped in and passed orders. The proposed election had to be postponed third time in a row due to legal complicities.

Around the same time the process of granting affiliation was questioned by different stake holders, Rahul Mehra filed the PIL in Delhi High Court. This case was heard almost alternate days.
