Doyen of women's hockey in the 1970s, Ajinder Kaur, nee Ajinder Gurcharan Saini, was not only a popular player but also a commanding leader of the teams. Under her leadership, India entered the semi-finals of the 1974 World Cup. India is yet to repeat the feat yet despite clear four and half decades have gone by. She captained the side that won the home Begum Rasul Trophy in Chennai 1975.
Ajinder Kaur, a stout defender, also led Punjab state to Senior Women's Nationals title often.
Government of India honoured her with Arjuna award in 1974.
She lives in England.
