Born in Bengal, Ann Lumsden had been a sharp shooter of goals. She was part of the Indian team that visited Australia in 1956. She helped India win the Sri Lankan series at home in 1960 and on visit in 1962. India won all the matches on the Sri Lanka tour where Ann Lumsden was the top scorer. She is the first women hockey player to get  Arjuna, in 1961, when the awards were instituted.
