Born on 23rd August 1951 at Bhagrari village in Amritsar Dt., defender Baldev Singh studied at Victory Senior Secondary School in Jalandhar and RSD College in Ferozepur. He played Inter-University Championship representing  Punjab University and got selected for Combined Universities' team that toured Australia. Won bronze at the 1971 World Cup, his debut tournament. He played 1973 and 1978 World Cups, 1976 Olympics among many other engagements. He was awarded Arjuna in 1998.
