Kazan team captain Mamta is the face of present day women hockey. Youngest of the three sisters of a school teacher, the 5’4’’ Mamta is a product of Chandigarh Sports Hostel. Sisters Poonam and Suhma are also hockey players. The threesome won bronze for Haryana in the Bangalore National Games (1995). She joined Western Railways in 1999. Made her debut in New Jersey 4-Nation and posted the goal against England in the final to give India the Cup. Declared the best player of the first AHF’ (Under 18) Cup where she scored 9 goals to become the overall top scorer. She was the joint stop scorer for India at the Buenos Aires Junior World Cup (5 goals). Young Mamta was shot into the limelight when she scored the golden goal at the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games. She won a silver at the next Commonwealth Games and gold at the 2004 Asia Cup. She recently left the Indian Railways and joined as DSP in Haryana Police. Got Arjuna in 2000. Mamta scored ten goals in the last Asia Cup.
