Born on 17th Nov.1959 at Tiruvananthapuram in Kerala, S. Omana Kumari studied at Cotton Hill Govt. School.  She represented her State and then Indian Railways at the National Championships. She first worked for the Railways before moving to State Sports Deptt, Kerala. She played for India from 1975 to 1986 which included two Asian Games (Gold at 1982, bronze at 1986). She was awarded Arjuna in 1998.
