New Delhi, Sep 17 (IANS) Sacked Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) president K.P.S. Gill Wednesday said elections to the body will be held once the Delhi High Court disposes off the case filed by him against the supersession of the federation by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).

Gill claimed around 20 affiliated units attended IHF’s annual general meeting (AGM) here Wednesday, though he did not divulge the exact number nor did he give the names of the associations.

Among the prominent state hockey associations that attended the AGM were Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Chandigarh, Delhi, Jharkhand and Hyderabad. The four government institutions did not turn up for the meeting.

Gill said the IHF would resume its activities with a sub-junior tournament organised by the Chandigarh Hockey Association in November.

‘The AGM was attended by around 20 member associations. We discussed routine matters and decided to resume our activities. We will organise a sub-junior tournament in November,’ Gill told reporters here.

‘We also discussed matters related to holding of elections. We will wait for the Delhi High Court to give its verdict and then conduct elections at the earliest.’
The court will hear Gill’s petition against the IOA on Dec 4.
Gill said the IOA’s ad-hoc committee on hockey had not done anything in the past six months.

‘The ad-hoc committee has been only making announcements in the last six months. We are a registered body and so is IOA. Whatever IOA did was illegal. We are fighting the issue in court. I am confident that everything will be proved on Dec 4,’ he maintained.
Asked about the International Hockey Federation’s (FIH) decision to accept the supersession of the IHF, he said: ‘FIH has no right to interfere in our internal matters. The decision has to be taken according to Indian laws and not by international laws.’
