Traditional rivals India and Pakistan are set to lock horns in the pool stage of the upcoming 2026 Men’s Hockey World Cup, guaranteed after they were both clubbed into Pool D in today’s draw ceremony. The pairing promises one of the tournament’s most-watched encounters and ensures that Pool D, which also features England and Wales, will be a focal point from day one.

Held at the iconic Wagener Stadium in Amsterdam, Netherlands—one of the key venues for the upcoming tournament, alongside the new Belfius Hockey Arena in Wavre, Belgium—the draw has determined the groups for both the men’s and women’s competitions, setting the stage for thrilling matchups in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Men’s Tournament Draw

The remaining men’s pools promise equally compelling competition. Hosts Netherlands will headline Pool A on home soil alongside Argentina, New Zealand, and Japan.

In Belgium, Pool B features current Olympic champions Belgium, who will face strong opposition from Germany, France, and Malaysia. Pool C, also playing in Belgium, includes powerhouse Australia, Spain, Ireland, and South Africa.

Women’s Tournament Draw

The Women’s tournament draw also produced exciting groups. Defending champions and hosts Netherlands will compete in Pool A, playing in the Netherlands against Australia, Chile, and Japan. Pool D will also be staged in the Netherlands, featuring China, England, India, and South Africa.

Matches in Belgium will feature Pool B, including Argentina, Germany, USA, and Scotland, while Pool C consists of the Belgian hosts, Spain, New Zealand, and Ireland.

A Star-Studded Ceremony

The draw was conducted by international hockey legends Naomie van As, Barbara Neelen, and Teun de Nooijer, adding significant prestige to the ceremony. DJ La Fuente, announced as the Dutch Ambassador for the World Cup, also participated in the draw.

The milestone event was attended by top FIH officials, including President Tayyab Ikram, along with the Presidents of the Dutch and Belgian Hockey Federations. Captains and head coaches from both host nations—the Netherlands and Belgium—were also present, underscoring the collaborative effort behind this premier event.
