India, Punjab hockey match drawn
The Indian Hockey team and the Punjab team played out a pulsating draw in their hockey exhibition match at the Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium on Saturday. The score line at the end of the 70 minutes read 3-3.
In the first half, Indian Boys dominated, while in the second half Punjab
looked the more dominant of the teams.
In the 12th minute of play, Yuvraj Valmiki opened the account of Indian team with field goal (1-0). In the 25th minute of the play SK Uthapa scored another for Indian team (2-0).
The score line at half-time read 2-0. After the break, Indian captain Sardar Singh scored another field goal (3-0) in the 37th minute.
After that, team Punjab decided to fight back and there was marked improvement in their performance. Former Indian captain and now Punjab captain Rajpal Singh and Gurbaj Singh played a good game.
In the 47th minute, Harpreet Singh Nagra converted a penalty stroke for Punjab to reduce the deficit. In the 55th minute Karamjit singh of Punjab scored the field goal from a lovely pass of Rajpal Singh (2-3).
In the 60th minute of play, Karamjit Singh scored the equaliser for Punjab (3-3).
Pargat Singh, ex Indian captain, Hockey Punjab general secretary and MLA Jalandhar Cantonment was chief guest.
Indian team chief coach Michael Nobbs was also present at the event.
