Chandigarh Comets fought back from a goal down to notch up a dominating 3-1 victory over hosts Pune Strykers in their seventh match of the World Series Hockey.
Chandigarh, who had three wins and as many losses so far, scored through Sukwinder Singh (12th minute), Gurjinder Singh (41st) and Llyod Stephensonn (51st) after Pune’s Mario Nicolas Almada had put them ahead in the 11th minute of the match.
Pune had plenty of home support and their first goal in the first quarter, when Mario scored through a field goal, only raised the expectations.
But the dust had not even settled as Sukwinder Singh (Gabbar) brought up the equaliser in the next minute itself to put paid to Pune’s efforts.
After a thrilling first quarter, both teams tried hard to break the deadlock but neither could materialise the chances as the match went into the third quarter.
Six minutes into the third quarter, Gurjinder converted a penalty corner to help the visitors lead 2-1.
Ten minutes later, Stephensonn scored another field goal to almost the seal the match.
Pushed to the wall, the Stykers tried to narrow the gap but they failed to threaten the Coments much as they succumbed to their second defeat in the tournament.
Pune will now take on Karnataka Lions in the same venue tomorrow, while Chandigarh will lock horns with Delhi Wizards in New Delhi on Wednesday.
