1. India played in the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup and finished sixth in a field of seven. Rajinder Singh Junior was appointed as new chief coach



2. Second international outing for India was RaboTrophy MiniWorld Cup in Rotterdam. In the 8-team competition, India ended up seventh.

3. Indian Juniors had a better year. They came fourth in the Junior World Cup held at Amsterdam. Chief coach was Harendera Singh.

4. On domestic front, Premier Hockey League was introduced with much fanfare in January. Hyderabad Sultans won the title; the winners purse was Rs. 30,000, which is by far the biggest in India.

5. Nationals were held at Hyderabad in March, which for the first time Punjab and Sind Bank won.

6. India finishes sixth at the home Champions Trophy in Chennai.

Women
1. Indira Gandhi International hockey tournament for women was revived after a gap of almost ten years. Australia won the title, defeating India via tie-breaker.

2. Haryana and Railwas shared the Nationals’ title.
