Tuesday, January 05, 2010: Indian Oil Corporation ( IOC ) and South Central Railway ( S.C.Rly ) registered wins in the opening day of the league phase in the 9th All India Guru Tegh Bahadur Gold Cup Hockey Tournament Sponsored by Punjab & Maharashtra Co.Op.Bank Ltd organized by MHA Ltd played at Mahindra Stadium, Churchgate.
IOC quelled gritty Namdhari XI by ( 2-0 ) margin while S.C.Rly routed Bhopal XI by a thumping margin of 9-0. IOC and Namdhari XI tie turned out to be keenly contested one. Fancied IOC had to slog against youthful Namdhari’s who were backing on total youngsters in their ranks.
Olympian Didar Singh gave IOC the lead in the very 8th minutes by converting a penalty corner via drag flick ( 1-0 ) thereafter Namdhari XI pressed hard and also came up with innovative moves up front but could not get the desired success on the other hand IOC found the 2nd goal in the 32nd minutes, the well positioned Didar Sing once again cashed the defensive lapse by Namdhari’s defender by banging into the wooden works from the acute angle ( 2-0 ).

South Central Railway outplayed Bhopal XI by thumping margin of 9-0 at lemon break S.C.Rly were having a cushion of 4-0 . Bhopal XI could not pose any serious threats on S.C.Rly who scored goals at regular intervals.
Rajinder Yadav fired four goals followed by a brace by Chengappa while Irshad Mirza, Mayank James and Mayur Subbaiah chipped one each to complete the rout.
Tomorrow, ONGC will play Western Railways, while Air India will tak on Central Railways.
