“Its a setback”, says Indian coach Bansal

As if to reflect the mood of his team that drew New Zealand 2-2 in its second pool match of the Junior World Cup, Ajay Kumar Bansal, the Indian coach, said that the draw is setback in their target and expecatations.

“By all means we dominated the match, especially the first and last 15 minutes. However, the forward line could not avail the opportunities. It is definitely a setback” he conceded.

“It does not mean we are heartbroken, take the result in its stride”

“This pool is strongest in my opinion. Three teams are evenly balanced. With this draw, the pool is now wide open”, Bansal said.

“We expected a tough match and it turned out to be insofar as our scorer’s task is concerned. It is a sequence of missed chances that cost us dear”, he elaborated the match.

When pointed out the poor show of Diwakarram — who could convert just a goal out of a dozen chances — he shot back and evaded the portrend of the poser, “missed chances includes his as well”.

To a querry why he did not have another PC converter when it is known things are not going for Diwakar Ram, he simply said, “I have substitute, alternative, and that will come in right time”.

Peter Miskimmin, New Zealand coach said, “I accept Indian coach’s version. We were subjected to intense pressure by a team that had the benefit of three months training. We just had only three days camp. We could have even won the match”.

He further eleborated: ” We are pleased with the result”.

Both coaches talked about their goalkeepers. When Bansal almost eugolized Australian goalkeeper, Peter intervened and said, “Your goalkeeper also stopped a last minute attempt of Simon Child. I complement him as well”.

Both coaches accepted there is lot of room for development. Peter said, “we were nervous against Poland, now gained a measure of confidence after the Indian match. We should improve, I suppose”.

it is not just set back… it is still worse… the NZ team comes only with 6 days of coaching. I dont think so… the team will qualify for the 2nd round.. very difficult proposition…..

Diwakar needs to lift his DragFlicks, quite literally…Whatever little I have seen of Diwakar, he tends to hit low drag flicks almost every time…And u are not going to be succesful doing that..Diwakar needs to vary his height and angle…Come on India..Do it…

Whatever happens to India in this tournament, one welcome change is that this time we have a genuine under 21 team unlike our squad in the last 2 WC when I am sure atleast half a dozen or more players were above 21….

21 years and below? it cannot be? this is a curse in asian hockey… age is altered by every player… just take pramod… he played last junior asia cup no he is still playing junior world cup. One of the academy in New delhi is famous for malpractice…. I think now pargat is doing a good job to issue bonafide ID cards to players and making it compulsory… thats a good job done by him in Punjab. But are the other states following it?
