Mysore (Karnataka), 10 April 2015: The 5th edition of the Hockey India Junior Men National Hockey Championship 2015 being played at Mysore, Karnataka saw some exciting clashes in the last phase of the pool matches.
The day started with a clash between Kerala Hockey and Hockey Madhya Pradesh where the former overcame the latter 4-0. This was followed by an exciting clash where Hockey Gangpur Odisha defeated Hockey Patiala 7-0 and enters the semi-final. The last match of the day was completely dominated by Chandigarh Olympic Association as they won the match against Assam Hockey 9-1.
The first match of the day witnessed an exciting clash between Kerala Hockey and Hockey Madhya Pradesh where the former defeated the latter 4-0. The two teams played a goalless first half until Resbin. S broke the deadlock and scored three field goals in favour of Kerala Hockey in the 37th, 39thand 57th minute. Pocketing another goal for Kerala Hockey, Sarang. D successfully converted a penalty corner in the 40th minute which helped the team to register a win against Hockey Madhya Pradesh 4-0.
In a Pool D match, Hockey Gangpur Odisha beat Hockey Patiala 7-0 and enters the semi-final of the tournament. Hockey Gangpur Odisha started with a great speed and scored the first goal of the match as early as in the 10th minute through a penalty corner conversion by Pratap Lakra. The second goal of the match came through the stick of Abhisek Lakra who effectively converted a penalty corner in the 27th minute taking the lead to 2-0 in the first half. Hockey Gangpur Odisha continued their attack and within just five minutes into the second half, Sanjay Xalxo notched the third goal for his team in the 40th minute. They did not stop here as Pratap Lakra and Abhisek Lakra scored a goal each in the 52nd and 66th minute respectively to advance the lead to 5-0. Sudeep Kerketta scored two consecutive goals in the 67th and 68th minute to support Hockey Gangpur Odisha in declaring a convincing win against Hockey Patiala 7-0.
In another Pool D match, the tournament witnessed Chandigarh Olympic Association taking on Assam Hockey and winning the match against the later 9-1. Chandigarh Olympic Association started its scoring feat in the 19th minute with Raj Kumar scoring his first goal of the match through a field effort. The second goal was scored in the 24th minute through Sharanjit Singh who doubled the lead to 2-0. The third goal of the match came through the stick of the Captain Gursewak Singh who scored a beautiful field goal for his team. Within just three minutes of the third goal, Sharanjit Singh scored the fourth goal for his team, second to his name in the 34th minute. Taking the lead further at 5-0, Harikrat Singh supported his team with a field goal in the 41st minute. Assam Hockey got its first breakthrough in the 51st minute through Rajesh Boro who scored a lone goal to open the team’s account. The score board read 5-1 until Chandigarh Olympic Association bagged two goals contributed by Gursewak Singh and Harikrat Singh in the 57th, 59th minute respectively which were further supported by the Captain Gursewak Singh’s brace goals in the 64th and 67th minute. With just a single goal to their name, Assam Hockey lost to Chandigarh Olympic Association 9-1.

Post registering their respective wins in the previous matches, Hockey Gangpur-Odisha, Mumbai Hockey Association, Hockey Puducherry and Bengal Hockey Association each have marched to the semi-finals of the 5th edition of the Hockey India Junior Men National Hockey Championship 2015 scheduled to take place tomorrow.
