JUNIOR HOME & AWAY SERIES BETWEEN MUMBAI & KARNATAKA TO BEGIN ON 22nd JANUARY
Mumbai and Karnataka have produced a host of Olympians, International, and World Cupper who have brought laurel not only to the Country but also their respective State with hockey playing a dominant role in the life of the everyday player.
To consolidate the already existing junior talent a joint venture in the form of a Indian Maharadja Home & Away Junior Hockey Series is to be played in Coorg and Mumbai, a six matches series whereby it gives these talented boys the much needed exposure, match temperament, different playing conditions, experience travel, stay which a player has to endure on his way to becoming a top notch player has been scheduled
A trophy named after former Mumbai/Karnataka Hockey legends called the Indian Maharadja Balbir Singh Grewal – M.P.Ganesh Trophy will be awarded and prize money of Rs.1,00,000/- to the Winners and Rs.50,000/- to Runners up will be awarded.
After the end of the Series a proposal to select a squad of 18 players to go on a European or Oceanic tour for team exposure or this team will take part in any all India Tournament conducted by the respective Associations.
The success of this series will be used to further promote the game and develop the talent of the junior boys who are deprived of a platform to showcase their talent by organizing four State tournaments from different zones. This will help in overcoming the financial difficulties faced in conducting a junior national championship.
