Hyderabad: Employing zero tolerance policy on the use of drugs, the organising committee of Junior Asia Cup hockey tournament on Monday said they have randomly conducted dope tests on as many as eight players of different participating nations since the second day of the event.

According to sources, four more players were expected to undergo tests.

“On the guidelines of the World Anti-Dopping Agency, random dope tests were being conducted on players participating in the tournament. Eight players have already underwent dope tests since July 12,” informed an official of the organising committee on condition of anonymity.

“The results of all the tests were expected to be known within a week,” he added.

It is learnt that Pakistani drag-flicker Kashif Ali, who scored both the goals in the team’s 2-2 draw against South Korea on Sunday night, was one among the eight players who went through the tests.

The tests were being conducted after the Asian Hock ey Federation (AHF) had asked the organising committee to carry out dope tests on minimum 10 players.

“All the samples would be sent across to the Sports Authority of India (SAI) which would decide whether to sent these samples abroad or to check them in their own laboratory,” the official said.

“Depending upon Sample ‘A’ results, tests on Sample ‘B’ would be carried out,” he added. PTI
