12 teams to take part in hockey meet

LUDHIANA

AS many as 12 teams from different parts of the country will participate in the XII All India Mohinder Partap Singh Grewal Hockey tournament starting from November 27 to December 1 at Prithipal Singh Stadium (Astroturf) PAU.

The trust has decided to give a cash award of Rs 50,000 to the winners, Rs 35,000 to the runners up Rs 10,000 to third and Rs 500 to fourth term despite the tournament being not sponsored. Cash awards will also be given to the best player, highest scorer, highest scorer from Penalty Corners (minimum 5 goals) and best goal-keeper, fullback, half back and forward.

The teams participating in the tournament are:

Western Railway Kumbai (Winners), Central Railway Mumbai (Runner up), South Eastern Railway Kolkatta, Northern Railway Delhi, North Eastern Railway Gorkpur, Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala, Chandigarh, Jharkhand XI Ranchi, Dhanoa XI Punjab, Delhi XI, Haryana XI, UP XI, MP XI.

Out of these twelve teams only eight will be selected by the organising committee for participation in this tournament. The tournament will be played on league cum knock out basis.

According to Ranjit Singh Grewal, chairman of the organizing committee, Saroj Bansal- International Umpire and player, will be tournament director as per IWHF. The judges will be Pritpal kaur, Sharanjit Kaur, Pushpinder Kaur Aranjeet Kaur, Gurvinder Singh Grewal whereas the umpires are Nira Mala, Sunita Pant and Anjali Sharma.
