India’s Moscow Olympic captain Zafar Iqbal said the story behind each India’s Olympic gold should be researched and told. He was speaking yesterday at a book releasing function at Shivaji Stadium here.

“India has won eight Olympic gold medal and recently two back to back bronze. There lies huge human effort behind each success or failure. The truth, the effort, and all details should be in the public domain, opined Zafar.

He appreciated all the recent efforts of Hockey India in highlighting and rewarding recent bronze medal winners, and other Asian continent title wins.

We have won Olympic medal at Tokyo after 41 years. This is not a small feat, and we should all celebrate. Am happy the way Hockey India gave importance to these achievers and highlighted their hardwork and success. Recently, Hockey India gave away annual awards also

“However,  I have request to Dr Dilip Tirkey who is here. We have won 8 Olympic gold. Every team that worked for it had their own tales, and details. These stories should be told, and Hockey India may take interest in line with what they have done for Tokyo and Paris success”

Those present in the function including two World Cup goldies, Brigadier HJS Chimni and Ashok Kumar, clapped strongly and enthusiastically.

Zafar Iqbal was speaking at the book releasing function of MARCH OF GLORY: The story of 1975 World Cup hockey triumph.
